- ABOUT US -

“It All Started In A Rambling Kitchen” was the breaking story in the Johnson City Press Chronicle in 1938 from the original Peerless in downtown Johnson City. Going on 84 years of serving the finest beef in East Tennessee, we have mastered our craft from generation to generation.  We now celebrate by opening BURG’r & BARREL in this beautiful hometown historical train depot. We offer a unique dining scene with a fun & relaxing environment accompanied by the newly designed outdoor area, GATHER JC Depot  which will host an innovative beer garden & outdoor bar + an array of different games & activities for a true Johnson City hospitality experience. We have extensive local craft beers,  specialty cocktails,  assortments of wine, & wide array of bourbon and whiskey for enjoyment.

Our Chef’s buy local & regional food when possible to support our menu, our menu items only use premium hand selected loins of proteins always hormone free, and are in-house butchered daily where we will secretly & uniquely blend and cook your burg'r to perfection. There is no doubt, these specialty burgers, and smoked meats reign supreme in every bite!  Our family & culinary experts are fussy about every item on our hand crafted menu.

I personally welcome you & hope you enjoy our now 4th generation, Kalogeros Family Culinary Hospitality experience.

                                                                                      Building History

Built in 1908, the CC&O Railroad Station and Depot served as a passenger station and freight depot in Johnson City. The depot was built for passengers to travel North & South along the East Coast. The historic Clinchfield Depot was saved from the wrecking ball in 2003 by Dorian Jones.  Following the historic save, in 2008, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Now in 2022, the Train Depot unites with the deeply rooted Kalogeros Family that has been in Johnson City since the early 30's to create the hottest local eatery and hangout spot in downtown, BURG'r & BARREL and they are ready to leave their own mark on local history.
